It is thought that this was recrystallized from shattered tiger eye stones due to changes of earth's crust. Pietersite is made up mainly of crocidolite and the color changes according to the state of oxidization. For that reason, Pietersite is also called‘crocidolite agate.' Furthermore, its appearance may also have led to the naming of the stone as the‘tempest stone.'
